The Europa League might not be the pinnacle of European competition, but it’s still very significant.
While the winners secure a place in the Champions League for next season, winning a major trophy shouldn’t be overlooked.
This year’s final looks to be a competitive matchup, even if there’s no British interest. Jose Mourinho’s Roma take on Europa League specialists Sevilla tonight, in a game that could go either way.
Watching the Europa League usually requires a subscription, but that’s not the case for the final. Here’s how to watch it live and for free.
When is the Europa League final?
The Europa League final takes place today, 31 May 2023. It kicks off at 8pm BST (current UK time), but the prospect of extra time and penalties means it could be a long night.
How to watch the Europa League final for free in the UK
BT Sport has exclusive rights to the Europa League in the UK, meaning you’ll need to pay for a subscription to watch almost all of the tournament.
But the final is the one exception, with BT Sport livestreaming the full match via its official YouTube channel. The page isn’t available to embed at the time of writing, but it should be there once coverage begins at 7.15pm BST.
However, that’s not your only option when it comes to watching the final for free. You can also watch without a subscription via the BT Sport website or app, with the latter available for iOS and Android.
If you’ve already paid for a subscription though, don’t worry. The match is also live on BT Sport 1 and BT Sport Ultimate, which offers up to 4K HDR quality and Dolby Atmos support.
How to watch the Europa League final for free outside the UK
BT Sport is geo-restricted, meaning you can only officially watch its coverage – including on YouTube – if you’re based in the UK.
For the final, it’s worth checking if your local broadcaster is also making the final free to watch. That’s CBS Sports (via Paramount+) in the US, Stan Sport in Australia or Sony Pictures Networks in the Indian subcontinent.
However, if you already have an active UK subscription, we’d recommend accessing the BT Sport stream using a VPN. This will allow you to still appear as if you’re in the UK and retain access to channels, and it’s completely legal.
NordVPN is one of our top recommendations, but you can check out our best VPN chart, which shows you some of the best services for accessing UK content from abroad.
On Nord, simply open the app on the device you want to use and connect to any server in the UK. Then, just use the BT Sport website or app like you normally would.

If you’re only planning on using the VPN for the final, you might also want to consider a free VPN. Nearly all will have a UK server, but there may be strict data limits.
